PSE 2026
PSE 2026 The 20th International Conference on Plasma Surface Engineering (PSE 2026) will be held from 31 August to 3 September 2026 in Erfurt, Germany, organized by the European Society for Thin Films (EFDS). PSE biennial conference, established in 1988, is one of the world's premier conferences devoted to plasma, vacuum, thin-film, and surface engineering technologies, providing an international forum to gather scientists, engineers, equipment manufacturers, and industrial users for exchanging the latest advances in research, process development, and commercial applications of plasma surface engineering technologies.
The conference program covers four major technical areas in plasma science and technologies:
- Plasma and Ion Sources includes low pressure plasmas and ion beams as well as atmospheric pressure plasmas, power supplies and process control systems, particles in plasma, and plasma volume processes.
- Process Technologies involves topics such as plasma treatment, plasma cleaning and etching, physical vapor deposition (PVD), Plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), atomic layer deposition and other plasma-based surface process technologies.
- Properties and Applications of plasma processes in various areas, encompassing protective and tribological surfaces, optical, microelectronic, quantum and magnetic coatings, biomedical and agriculture applications, energy technologies for batteries, hydrogen, solar, environmental applications, and transportation and mobility.
- Characterization and Simulation of film growth, plasma processes, plasma diagnositics, thin film structure analysis properties, and AI modelling.
The special topics of PSE2026 is “Surface engineering for clean energy solutions”, emphasizes current global priorities in creating advanced coatings and plasma technologies for batteries, fuel cells, photovoltaics, and other sustainable energy systems. The conference trend topic “Thin films and micro structuring methods for integrated smart systems” reflects emerging research in smart coatings, sensors, micro- and nanostructured materials, AI-assisted process optimization, and next-generation integrated devices.
PSE 2026 also includes an exhibition for plasma and vacuum technologies and equipment, showcasing the latest innovations in coating equipment, plasma sources, analytical instrumentation, advanced materials, automation, and production technologies.
