The 13th Vacuum and Surface Sciences Conference of Asia and Australia (VASSCAA-13), organized by the Korean Vacuum Society, will be held from 23–27 August 2026 at the HICO (Gyeongju Hwabaek Convention Center) in Gyeongju.
VASSCAA-13 is one of the leading international scientific events dedicated to developments in vacuum science, surface science, thin-film technologies, plasma science and coating techniques, and related materials research.
This conference is jointly hosted with the 71st Korean Vacuum Society (KVS) Summer Conference and endorsed by the International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique and Applications, aims to bring researchers, engineers, and industrial professionals together across Asia, Australia, and beyond.
VASSCAA-13 covers a broad spectrum of scientific and technological topics that reflect the latest developments in vacuum and surface engineering. The topics of this technical program includes:
- Vacuum Science and Technology covers ultra-high vacuum (UHV) and extreme-high vacuum (XHV) system design, outgassing properties of materials, and next-generation vacuum pumps and sensors.
- Applied Surface Science and engineering embraces surface properties modification, characterization, and design of novel materials to improve performance, functionality, and durability for practical applications, including catalysis, adhesion, and composite materials.
- Electronic Materials and Processing comprises fabrication of materials for advanced electronic, optoelectronic, such as compound semiconductors.
- Thin Films and Nanostructures involves synthesis, characterization, and application of low-dimensional nanostructures, functional thin films and multilayer structures, control of crystal structure created by advanced deposition techniques, emphasizing green energy and environmental remediation.
- Plasma Science and Technology concerns plasma-surface interactions, plasma diagnostics, modeling, and the development of plasma sources for etching, deposition, and medical applications.
Emerging research areas in fundamental research and industrial applications, also include Biointerfaces, Renewable Energy Technologies, Accelerator and Radiation Science, Magnetic Surfaces and Interfaces,Quantum Technology, Display Technologies,Space Technology, and AI-assisted Science and Technology. Consequently, the advanced deposition techniques such as atomic layer deposition and plasma processing are issued in this event as methods used in manufacturing energy devices, quantum materials, catalysis, biomedical surfaces, and next-generation electronic systems.
