CdS/Y/CdS Thin Films

Optoelectronic devices are electronic components that either produce light or use light in their function. Diode lasers and light emitting diodes (LEDs) are devices that produce light with electrical energy. On the other hand, Solar Cells and photovoltaic cells convert light into electrical energy.

Cadmium Sulfide is one of the materials that has been widely considered for use in solar cell technology. The effect of a Yttrium thin film between two thin films of cadmium sulfide (CdS/Y/CdS) has been investigated by researchers to increase the electrical current produced by light absorption. As a result of the use of this compound, an enhancement by ~5 times in the light absorbability and thus enhancement in increasing the photocurrent by ~ 21 times related to the pure CdS thin film is detected.
